So, inspired
by a sales representative from Wilsonart Laminates, I made the decision
to use my degree to go into sales and commercial design. A few
months later I was a Showroom Manager for Atelier International in
the Washington Design Center.
For fifteen
years I did everything related to interior design, but never
designed anyone’s home. I worked in lighting and window display,
high-end furniture and fabrics, carpet, new home finish selection,
commercial office design and sales, and retail merchandising. The
whole time I was thinking that I loved the field of interior
design, I loved being creative and making things look fabulous,
but because the traditional concept of residential design did not
appeal to me I kept working in the commercial side of the
industry.
In 2000 I
left the interior design industry to stay at home with my
daughter. When she started kindergarten, it was time for me to go
back to work. While searching the Internet for career ideas, I
came across the idea of Interior Redesign.
WOW! This put a name on what I had been visualizing all
of these years – making spaces look beautiful with the client’s
taste and style. I knew instantly that this was going to be my new
career.
I have been
very happy and successful in Jacksonville, having worked with
hundreds of clients to beautify their homes. I also share design
tips, trends and helpful hints with thousands of people every
Monday morning during my Redesigning Spaces segment on
The Morning Show on
Ch 4-WJXT.
In 2004, I
was elected to the Board of Directors for I.R.I.S. (Interior
Redesign Industry Specialists). We have many exciting plans to
promote the profession of interior redesign.
Now I would
like to share my knowledge and passion with you so you can follow
your dream by creating your own successful interior redesign
business. |
